DECAL Loading Terminals

Loading bays automation DECAL-Spain

Decal-Spain has two facilities within the country, one in Huelva and the other in Barcelona:

  • Barcelona Loading Plant, with capacity for loading of up to 12 tank trucks simultaneously.
  • Huelva Loading Plant at Palos de la Frontera, in which a major expansion of storage, mainly oils and biofuels, is being undertaken. It also has a new loading area for rail trains.

MONTREL has developed for both Loading Plants a new Loading Plant Control and Automation System.

Modular System

The System is designed in a modular way, so that each module has a specific mission and is perfectly integrated with the rest, allowing a harmonious functioning of the whole:

  • Data Exchange Module: It gives the Plant the ability to receive orders and send loading information, electronically.
  • Management Module: Allows the maintenance of the data system, also producing all the necessary documentation for transport, as well as Loading Plant performance reports.
  • Communications Module: It manages and controls the various devices that are integrated into the set by communication lines or network links.
  • Synoptics Module: It allows the viewing of all necessary data for monitoring the proper functioning of the System, including the treatment of alarms and warnings of operation.
  • Process Control or PLC: It is destined to keep all loading interlocks and the control of the different elements that are part of the Facility.

The Database System used in this case is Microsoft SQL Server.

The facilities are subject to ATEX regulations, as the Loading Plants storage Liquid Fuels.

Loading Plant Control

The System is made up in each case of a SIEMENS PLC type Simatic S7 315. Due to the high dispersion of signals, both analog and digital, the System has, between the two facilities, up to 27 distributed periphery stations, using ET200M and ET200S from Siemens, depending on signal density.

For the integration of signals, Probifus segments in fiber optic and copper have been combined, depending on the requirements of distance and communication speed.


Biofuels line production has been enhanced significantly, as loading points are endowed with the capacity to mix diesel fuels with various kinds of esters and gasoline with ethanol, in varying proportions for both cases.

This high flexibility for mixing, is complemented by the possibility of quality and fiscal additive injection.

Subsystems Integration

To bring together in a single System the Monitoring and Control of Loading Plants, we have developed the communication drivers needed to integrate multiple package units:

  • Control System of Rotork motorized valves.
  • Control System of Limitorque motorized valves.
  • Monitoring System of Saab Tanks.
  • Monitoring System of Enraf Tanks.
