First LNG truck loading facilities
in Spain for Enagas

From 1999 to 2013 Montrel was responsible for the pioneering work of installing and implementing the first cryogenic LNG loading facility in Spain. Enagás, the largest natural gas operator in Spain and owner of the LNG regasification plants in Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva and El Musel (Gijón), commissioned us for these important projects. Enagás also has significant shares in plants in Sagunto, Bilbao, Quintero (Chile) and Altamira (Mexico). It is the main natural gas transporter and a major technical manager of gas systems in several countries, as it operates 12,000 km of gas pipelines. Since 1998, we have been developing all the software associated with the automation of existing LNG truck loading facilities for Enagás at its regasification plants (Huelva, Barcelona, Cartagena and El Musel). We therefore have extensive knowledge of Enagás' needs, and during these years we have provided all the developments and updates for the proper operation of these facilities.

Software to automate the
loading facilities

Since 1998, we have developed all the software associated with the automation of the existing LNG truck loading facilities for Enagás at its regasification plants (Huelva, Barcelona, Cartagena and El Musel), so we have extensive knowledge of Enagás' needs, and over these years we have provided all the developments and updates for the proper operation of these facilities

In addition, Montrel was the company that physically built the loading facilities, and their expansions. Enagás now has truck loading facilities at each of its plants (each with a certain number of bays) which enable LNG truck loading for transportation to satellite plants.

The general automation of LNG cryogenic loading in the storage and regasification plants in Barcelona, Hueva and Cartagena were the first in Spain. These facilities automatically load LNG into trucks that distribute the product to places and industries where the gas pipelines cannot reach.

We develop and implement the control system for loading operations, automatic and/or manual generation of official supporting documents; as well as the control, manoeuvring and supervision of all the equipment involved in the loading process, among other utilities. We carry out remote maintenance of the truck loading control system from our offices.

Years later, we carried out the computer, instrumentation and mechanical engineering for LNG truck loading at the new plant in El Musel (Gijón). The El Musel regasification plant is a key infrastructure for the development of the Energy Strategy of the Principality and a key pillar of the National Energy Planning, although it is currently in hibernation.

This project also included the basic and detailed engineering of the management and control system for the loading process and the subsequent generation of administrative documentation.

At Montrel we know that these infrastructures play a key role as logistics centres to provide these services and to apply new LNG uses in a context of decarbonising transport.
